LISBON Devonta Freeman Hat , Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- A new viewing platform stationed on Lisbon's iconic April 25 suspension bridge opened to the public on Wednesday, according to the Tourism Association of Lisbon.
The "Pilar 7 Experience" takes visitors 72 meters up in a glass elevator attached to one of the bridge's main stanchions to view the city.
The new project was made possible by a 5.3-million-euro (6.2 million U.S. dollars) investment that was partly financed by Lisbon's tourism tax, a scheme whereby guests pay one euro per overnight stay in the city.
The April 25 suspension bridge connects Lisbon to Almada, a town on the south bank of the River Tagus. The bridge was built between 1962 and 1966 and the new visitor attraction is part of commemorations to mark its 50 years of activity. Originally called Salazar Bridge, the name was changed in 1974 to honor the Carnation Revolution, a bloodless coup which brought an end to the long time dictatorship in Portugal.
The attraction, priced at six euros for adults Calvin Ridley Hat , was inaugurated on Wednesday to celebrate World Tourism Day. Lisbon is one of the fastest growing tourist destinations in the world.

BRUSSELS, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- The European Commission rolled out a new scheme on Wednesday to bring at least 50,000 refugees to Europe over the next two years, in a bid to curb illegal human smuggling in the Mediterranean.
The move came on the back of Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker's State of the Union address, in which he pledged the European Union (EU) would "present a new set of proposals with an emphasis on returns Julio Jones Hat , solidarity with Africa, and opening legal pathways."
The new resettlement scheme, to be in place until October 2019, aims to "provide viable safe and legal alternatives for those who risk their lives at the hands of criminal smuggling networks," the Commission said in a press release.
The Commission underscored that increased focus should be put on resettling "vulnerable persons" from North Africa and the Horn of Africa, notably Libya, Egypt Ito Smith Hoodie , Niger, Sudan, Chad, and Ethiopia.

The EU's previous resettlement scheme, adopted in July 2015, has resettled some 23,000 refugees among EU member states.
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations Migration Agency, reported Tuesday that 134 Isaiah Oliver Hoodie ,549 migrants and refugees had entered Europe by sea in 2017 through Sept. 24, with over 75 percent arriving in Italy and the remainder divided between Greece, Cyprus and Spain.
